Is hot water extraction better than a rental machine?
Yes, and it is not close. A rental machine wets the surface and leaves detergent behind that re-attracts dirt, so the carpet looks worse within weeks and never fully dries. Hot water extraction injects hot water deep into the pile and immediately pulls it back out along with the dirt, allergens and residue, so the carpet is genuinely clean and dry in hours.
Will my old, traffic-worn carpet actually look better?
Usually far more than people expect. The grey lanes in the hallway and in front of the couch are almost always ground-in soil, not worn out fibre. Pre-treated and extracted, that soil comes out and the pile stands back up. Drag the before and after sliders on this site, those are real jobs.
